In a recent survey held by the Swiss Christian "Factum" magazine, 1100 Swiss of both genders between the ages of 15 and 74 years were asked the following question.
What should be tought in Biology classes in [public] schools with regard to the origin of life?
Here is the result:
a) Evolution only 215 (19,6%)
b) Creation only 53 (4,8%)
c) Both equally covered 831 (75,6%).
Hence four out of five Swiss favor the idea of having the biblical teachings of creation somehow represented in Biology classes.
This should not come as a suprise in a country with a preamble to the Federal Constitution reading "In the name of God the Amighty". Well, it comes as a surprise to me since most of these 80% Swiss are otherwise pretty silent about their opinion in this respect. Fact is that evolution and the age of the earth being 4.6 Billion years has been taught in Swiss public schools ever since I was a grade school student. I am encouraged anew to vote for an MP this coming October who favors this idea.
